Senior Leadership

Alex Lochrane, Chief Executive Officer

Born on Christmas Day 1963, Alex has enjoyed quite a varied and challenging career. Spending 24 years in the Royal Navy, serving overseas and in the Ministry of Defence, before retiring as a Commander in 2007.

Since then, he has led four charities ranging across historic houses, education, disability, sailing, pre-hospital emergency medicine and brain tumour research.

His first role was to reinvigorate Chiddingstone Castle in Kent, until 2009, before leading the Jubilee Sailing Trust in Southampton, until 2014.

Then leading Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, until 2021, during which he oversaw the charity move control and development of all their air and road operations into a ground-breaking Helicopter Emergency Medical Service care group within Southampton General Hospital.

He subsequently led the Brain Tumour Charity briefly, but the prospect of leading Canine Partners – an organisation that he says, remains unswervingly committed to that special bond between dog and human, leaves him both humbled and excited.

Alongside his wife Louisa, an NHS Nurse Practitioner, they have three children: Annabel, a junior doctor, Ollie, an engineer, and Angus who is studying French, and three grandchildren. They live in Southsea with Lola, their now very elderly and much-loved – if rather smelly – Labrador.

Lucy Eldred, Director of People

Lucy Eldred, as our Director of People, joined us in January 2022, with 15 years’ HR experience, mostly within defence, engineering and technology companies, having started her career in the Army.

Following a relocation to Bournemouth three years ago, she worked for a large local authority, as the Head of HR and was responsible for the People Strategy across the organisation and continued to deliver services throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. This included coordinating a large community volunteer network across the region to support food deliveries, medical support and social care services.

In her spare time Lucy likes nothing more than a walk on the beach or in the New Forest with her dog, Bunker the Rottie, who she says is far from anything like an assistance dog!

Faye Forde, Director of Finance and Resources

Faye's professional life began with a focus on International Development, before moving on to pursue a degree in Accounting. Although primarily centred around finance, her career has been quite diverse and she has also ventured into various other areas including governance, risk management, research panel oversight, and even overseeing a support helpline.

Throughout her life, Faye always felt a strong inclination towards working in the third sector. Since moving to the UK from Ireland six years ago, she has had the privilege of working for a national cancer charity, culminating in her role as Finance and Operations Director, which she held until 2023.

Alongside her professional career, Faye is an active member of the Green Party and was the campaign manager for the 2023 Borough Council Elections in Charnwood, where she was successfully elected along with two other Green Party members in Sileby and Seagrave.

Faye has one child, so weekends are a hectic juggle between council work, playgrounds, long walks and as much sea swimming as she can manage from the midlands.

Daniel Larcey, Director of Marketing and Income Generation

Daniel has nearly 20 years of experience in fundraising, marketing and insight across the charity sector. Most recently, Daniel held the position of Director of Strategy, Insight, and Marketing at an agency, where he collaborated with some of the UK's biggest charities.

Daniel’s experiences have enabled him to understand how important charities are, which is why he is passionate about ensuring that their stories of perseverance, kindness, and compassion are not only heard but celebrated.

Inspired by his parents, who both worked in caring professions, he was naturally inclined towards making a difference from an early age. Witnessing his mother navigate her career and family responsibilities while living with a disability became a driving force behind his affinity for disability charities such as Scope, RNIB, and now Canine Partners. Even today, his mother continues to inspire him to champion equity, diversity, and inclusion.

He has also inherited a love for dogs from his parents, owning a mischievous chocolate Labrador called Hazel.

Employee testimonial

“Without our brilliant people, both staff and volunteers, we would not be able to transform lives with our amazing dogs. I know that the People Team can really make a difference in supporting all of our people to continue doing such important work.”
